The 33ft Brede was an intermediate lifeboat type introduced into the RNLI fleet in the 1980s. In total twelve Bredes were built, of which eleven saw service at various stations around the British Isles.
This 68-page volume records the design, development and service history of the Brede class, which represented an unusual departure in British lifeboat design, and contains information about and photos of all the individual boats. It also describes some of the outstanding services undertaken in Brede lifeboats.
A number of the Bredes were sold out of RNLI service to the National Sea Rescue Institute of South Africa, and have enjoyed a second life-saving career in the Southern Hemisphere. This thoroughly researched authoritative book traces the history of the Brede class lifeboats, and is the sixth volume in the Lifeboat Design and Development series.
