Product Details
Lighthouses of the Isle of Man and North West England is a comprehensive, well-researched and original guide to the lighthouses on England’s north-west coast, from The Wirral to the Scottish border, and the Isle of Man.
Details of the lighthouses in Cheshire, Lancashire, Cumbria and the Isle of Man are included in this book, along with many unpublished high quality photographs, histories of all the lighthouses, both major and minor, details of their locations, visitor access and current use.
The introduction provides an historical overview explaining how aids to navigation developed and the role played by Trinity House and the Northern Lighthouse Board, which is responsible for the major lighthouses on the Isle of Man. The outstanding colour photographs, most of which are previously unpublished, cover all the lighthouses in the area and many are full-page illustrations.
Among the well-known lighthouses in the area are St Bees and Walney Island, both long-established aids to navigation, while on the Isle of Man the famous Calf of Man and Point of Ayre lights are described in detail. The unusual series of lighthouses at the entrance to the Mersey are covered, as are lights in the smaller ports.
