During the 1980s the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) developed and built a fast carriage-launched lifeboat designated the Mersey class. This thoroughly researched volume looks at the background to the Mersey’s design and development, and includes details of all the boats that were built, with high quality photos of every one.
In total 38 Mersey lifeboats were built and gave outstanding service around the United Kingdom and Ireland. Popular with their volunteer crews, the boats undertook thousands of services and rescued thousands of people.
Detailed narratives of the medal-winning rescues involving Mersey class lifeboats are included, together with information about where the boats are now.
